Who is Kate Sheppard?

September 5, 2018

Catherine Wilson Sheppard was New Zealand's most prominent member of women's suffrage.

Through her work of writing and public speaking she contributed to the cause very successfully which led to the culmination of 30,000 signatures calling for women's suffrage to be presented to parliament.

New Zealand was then the first country in the world to allow women to vote in 1893.

Visit our beautiful museum as we honour Kate and women and men like her this September and PLEASE SIGN our replicated petition, exhibition open until 30th October 2018.
